SALARY 5.8 TEQUESTA POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDER TITLE: SALARY INCENTIVE PROGRAM GENERAL ORDER: 5.8 EFFECTIVE: October 1, 1998 RESCINDS: NEW ACCREDITATION STANDARDS: CFA NONE PAGES: 2 CONTENTS: This order consists of the following numbered sections: I. EDUCATION INCENTIVE II. ADVANCED TRAINING INCENTIVE PURPOSE: To establish criteria and procedures for payment of salary incentive money in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC). SCOPE: This order applies to all full time certified law enforcement officers. DISCUSSION: Pursuant to 943.22 F.S., all Florida law enforcement agencies must provide incentive pay to certified members who have achieved advanced training and education. The amount received varies according to the individual’s amount of training and education. POLICY: The Police Department will provide the Salary Incentive Program mandated by the CJSTC. PROCEDURE: I. EDUCATION INCENTIVE: A. Certified, full time members who produce certified transcripts and a certificate showing the date of graduation from an accredited college or university, are eligible to receive higher education benefits. Benefits are $30 per month for a two-year degree and $80 per month for a four-year degree or higher. B. The administrative division will submit CJSTC Form 63 upon receipt of a member's request for education incentive pay with the required documentation. II. ADVANCED TRAINING INCENTIVE: Members may receive additional incentive money for successful completion of advanced training courses authorized by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. A. When a member completes an advanced course, the training center will send a certificate of completion to CJSTC. CJSTC will forward a certificate to the agency. The certificate must be received before any incentive money can be paid. G.O.5.8 1. To apply, the member must have successfully completed an approved 80-hour block of instruction. The block may consist of two 40-hour courses or a single 80-hour course. The incentive money will be paid at the rate of $20 per month for every 80-hour block. 2. CJSTC does not authorize payment until the 80-hour block is completed. 3. A member who attends an advanced training course is responsible for submitting the certificate of completion to the administrative division. 4. A member who was previously employed by another Florida law enforcement agency and received incentive pay from that agency has the responsibility to provide all necessary documentation to the administrative division to initiate incentive pay from the Village of Tequesta. B. Limits have been established on incentive pay that can be paid monthly. 1. Members with a college degree can be paid a maximum of $130 per month. For those without a degree the maximum is $120 per month. 2. Members who received their law enforcement training before July 1, 1980 are eligible for $25 per month incentive pay. For these members, the maximum amount of incentive pay is $125 per month. C. When a member is suspended without pay, or takes a leave of absence without pay, the salary incentive for that period will be paid according to the number of days paid within the pay period. When the member returns to duty, salary incentive payments will resume, effective the date of return. D. Incentive pay for members who terminate their employment will be paid according to the number of days worked within the final month. E. The administrative division will notify the Finance Department to begin payment of salary incentive monies.
