A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING DESIGNATION OF THE JUPITER LIGHTHOUSE
AND SURROUNDING FEDERAL LANDS AS AN OUTSTANDING
NATURAL AREA IN ORDER TO PROTECT, CONSERVE AND
ENHANCE THE UNIQUE AND NATIONALLY IMPORTANT
HISTORIC, NATURAL, CULTURAL, SCIENTIFIC,
EDUCATIONAL, SCENIC, AND RECREATIONAL VALUES OF
THIS SITE FOR THE BENEFIT AND ENJOYMENT OF PRESENT
AND FUTURE GENERATIONS; PROVIDING FOR
TRANSMITTAL BY THE VILLAGE CLERK; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and the surrounding Federal Lands
represent a true partnership of land stewardship and management between the Federal
Government, Palm Beach County, the Town of Jupiter, the Village of Tequesta, the
Loxahatchee River Historical Society and many other partners; and
WHEREAS, The area surrounding the Lighthouse supports significant ecological
values including Federally endangered flora and fauna and imperiled natural communities
rapidly vanishing in South Florida; and
WHEREAS, The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and associated Oil House constructed
in 1860 are nationally recognized historical structures that should be preserved for future
generations; and
WHEREAS, The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, the designation of the Jupiter Lighthouse and surrounding property
as an Outstanding Natural Area will make a significant addition to the Department of
Interior's National Landscape Conservation System and will be the only unit of the
system east of the Mississippi River; and
WHEREAS, Statutory protection for the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and its
surrounding Federal Lands will ensure that this historic structure and the surrounding
native ecosystems remain a part of the historic, cultural and natural heritage of the United
States.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCII..
OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUE5TA, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. Designation.
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and its surrounding Federal Lands should be
designated an Outstanding Natural Area in order to protect, conserve and enhance the
unique and nationally important historic, natural, cultural, scientific, educational, scenic,
and recreational values of this important site for the benefit and enjoyment of present and
future generations.
Section 2. Delivery to Congressional Delegation.
The Village Council herby directs the Village Clerk to deliver, or cause to be
delivered a certified copy of this Resolution to the Palm Beach County Congressional
Delegation upon adoption of this Resolution by the Village Council.
Section 3. Effective Date.
This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION WAS OFFERED by Councilmember Watkins, who
moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Vice Mayor Paterno, and upon being put to a
vote, the vote was as follows:

:AGAINST ADOPTION
The Mayor thereupon declared the Resolution duly passed and adopted this 8th day of
March, A.D., 2007.
