HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Special Meeting_04/10/1975 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MF~ETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA April 10, 1975 A Special Council meeting for the month of April was held Thursday, April 10, 1975 in the Village Hall at 9:10 A.M. Present were, Little, Jones, Baron and Campbell. Taylor was attending another meeting and could not be reached. Also present-were Robert Harp, Village Manager, Cyrese Colbert, Village Clerk, Jim Worth, Water Department Superintendent and Ed Walker, Water Consulting Engineer for the Village. The Press was represented by Paul Phillips, Courier and Pat Kloiber, Weekday. Mr. North spoke to the Council about.-the .serious water problem the Village was facing especially on this day.- He was concerned if the Village had enough. water to get through the day. Mr. Worth told Council the holding tank was at the six (6) foot level now and around 12:00 or 1:00 tonight .the tank ,would be about 2/3 empty and each day the problem is getting worse. The average daly water pumping figures for each month are getting higher. 1,610,000 gals. February 1,625,000 gals. March 1,761,000 gals. April The idea of increasing water rates was brought up. The main idea was to raise the rates for people. who used more water than the average family. This hopefully would curtail the amount of water used throughout the water system, Several suggesti©ns on how to get notice to people about a water ban was given. Representative of the Courier-and Weekday newspapers gave several ideas and asked questions.. Some. ideas:-. were signs along roadways, loud speakers from Police cars, radio and flyers distributed by volunteers. The Council decided distribution of flyers by volunteer would be a quicker way of spreading the news to the people. A copy of the flyer is attached to the minutes. Also Radio Station WRyZ of Tequesta and WSTU of Stuart was asked to announce the t'Water Ban" -42- 4-10-75 -~ to their listeners. While the flyers were being printed, the Council discussed a change in water rates but decided to hold off on the idea until a better plan could be drawn'up. Mr. Walker said at least three (3) new wells with the filters, could be put on line in about 4-6 weeks. The meeting was adjourned at 11:4© ~•• ~~ d' Cyrese Colbert -43-
