Meeting Minutes
September 11, 2007
I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
The Village of Tequesta Safety Committee held a regular meeting in the
Tequesta Village Hall, 345 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida, on Tuesday,
September 11, 2007. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. A roll call
was taken by Chairperson Merlene Reid. Boardmembers present were: Chair
Merlene Reid, Derek Velez, Kathleen Worley, Ernie McGee, Maureen
McGuinniss, Charles Burnsed and Robbie Russo.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Upon motion by Ernie McGee, seconded by Maureen McGuinniss and
unanimously carried, the agenda was approved as submitted.
III. DISCUSSION OF ROLE OF SAFETY COMMITTEE
Chair Reid reviewed the role of the safety committee by reviewing the Village
of Tequesta's Safety Policy. She noted that the Village is in the process of
developing a handbook summarizing the policy which should be out in
November. Chair Reid went over several key points in the policy and some
recommendations were agreed on which include safety checklists tailored to
each department and hazardous materials awareness classes.
IV. EMPLOYEE SCHEDULE FOR SAFETY TRAINING
Chair Reid stated that our liability insurance carrier will provide safety
training. It was discussed and agreed that each employee will have a
"schedule of safety training" kept by HR in their personnel files. It was
agreed on that all Village employees (including seasonal summer camp
workers) should be trained in: hazardous material awareness, fire
extinguishers, CPR, bloodbourne pathogens and basic first aid. The Utilities
Dept, Water Plant, Police/Fire Departments should have respiratory training
and Police/Fire Departments, Utilities, Parks Maintenance Workers, Code
Compliance and Building Inspector should also have confined space training.
V. BIRD FLU PANDEMIC
Chair Reid discussed the awareness of a bird flu pandemic and the importance
of having hand sanitizers readily available, disposable gloves, paper towels
and keeping a certain distance when dealing with the public.
VI. VILLAGE WIDE SELF INSPECTION REPORTS
Sample safety inspection reports were passed out to each department and they
will tailor and discuss the needs of their department and get their updates to
Robbie Russo in one week so anew checklist can be developed and
implemented. These checklists will be completed quarterly. A discussion was
held regarding the need of some safety equipment for employees picking up
dead animals. Also, the need to utilize the bobcat machinery when employees
empty truck loads of heavy items.
VII. ANALYSIS OF WORKPLACE INJURIES
A list of workplace injuries was handed out covering Oct. 2006 to present.
Chair Reid mentioned she had hired an ergonomist consultant to come in and
evaluate employee's workstations to prevent future repetitive motion injuries.
VIII. ADJOURNMENT
Upon motion by Chair Reid to adjournment meeting, seconded by Derek
Velez was unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 11:09 a.m.
