ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT OF
THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA
The Zoning Board of Adjustment held a Public Hearing at
8:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 1, 1971 at the Village Hall, 357 Tequesta
Drive, Tequesta, Florida. Board members present were: Messrs.
Shiplett, Gifford, Good and Hutchison. Mr. Zdebster had advised
the Clerk he would not be able to attend. Also present was
Robert Harp, Clerk of the Board.
Chairman Shiplett introduced the Board members to the
Hearing. The Clerk read the Notice of Hearing which had been
published in the Beacon News on May 13, 1971 and advised that
property otmers within 500 feet of the proposed application had
been sent letter notices of the meeting.
The Hearing was advised that an application for
conditional use of the Church school rooms of the Church of the
Good Shepherd, 400 Seabrook Road, for a private school, Village
• ~ Christian School, Inc., (Alontesorri) Sarah K. Armstrong, President
to accomodate a maximum of thirty (30) students, had been received.
Mrs. Armstrong gave a very comprehensive report of the Montesorri
System and the program she expected to use for her students. It
~~~as explained that the physical facilities determine the maximum-
number of students the Health Department will allow and the
charter for-the school sets a maximum age of 7~ years. Mrs.
Armstrong said if the need and demand should arise for an increase
in the age or grade level, they would probably have to expand
their program and find larger facilities in which to have the
school. The Church has given their approval to Village Christian
School, Inc. for use of the church facilities.
Mrs. Ross Ellwood, 365 Mars Avenue, Lot 19, Bloclc 33,
Jupiter in the Pines, Section "D", said she was not interested
in schools for the area which would create additional traffic
problems with school busses etc. 1vlr. Philip Olsen, 361 Mars
Avenue, Lot 17, Block 33, Jupiter in the Pines, Section "D",
said there was no limit to the number of 'new schools if they
were permitted to come into the Village, bringing along with
them their traffic problems, etc.
1•fr. Robert Emry, 18 Ridgewood Circle, Lot 6, Ridgewood,
asked what the property was being re-zoned from and to, and was
advised that this would not be a re-zoning but an approval of a
conditional use pezntitted under the terms of the Zoning Ordinance.

The Clerk read a letter from Mr. ~ Mrs. Thomas F. Burns,
2 Westwood Avenue, Tequesta Garden Apartments G-202, indicating
their favoring of the proposed school at the subject location.
The C1erlc advised there had not been any other conm-unications
either written or verbal concerning the application.
Gifford moved, seconded by Hutchison that the application
of Village Christian School, Inc., Sarah ti. Armstrong, President,
for conditional use of the Church school rooms of the Church of
the Good Shepherd, 400 Seabrook Road, for a private school,
(Montesorri) be approved. The vote on the motion was:
Gifford - For the Motion
Cood - For the Motion
Hutchison - For the Motion
Shiplett - For the Motion
and was therefore unanimously passed.
The Hearing was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
