October 14, 2005 City of Tequesta Attn: Gwen Carlisle 250 Tequesta Drive, Suite 300 Tequesta, FL 33469 Dear Ms. Carlisle: In 2005, more than 5,800 Palm Beach County residents received hospice and palliative care services.. We are requesting that you proclaim November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month in the City of Tequesta because these services touch the lives of so many residents and their families. Each day, an average of 900 Palm Beach County residents living with life-limiting illnesses and their families receive care from Hospice of Palm Beach County. For many terminally ill patients, hospice care is a compassionate alternative to traditional care. National Hospice and Palliative Care month is recognized throughout the United States • and around the world as a time to raise awareness about this philosophy of care and stress the importance of quality care at the end of life. Terry Schiavo's misfortune has brought the importance of hospice care to the forefront of people's thoughts. Hospice usage in the United States has been growing steadily since the first volunteer hospices began almost 30 years ago. More than 950,000 patients were served by the nation's 3,300 hospice providers in 2003. Please help us raise awareness and understanding of hospice and palliative care throughout Palm Beach County, by proclaiming November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. We would enjoy the opportunity to pick up the proclamation at your upcoming council meeting. Please contact Carol Gonstead at 561-227-5159 so that we can arrange for representation. Thank you for supporting Hospice of Palm Beach County. Regards, ~~ Sheila Zayas ImMEDIAcy Public Relations, Inc.
