HISYORY OF JUPITER/?EQUES?A RIWANIS
We turned the park over to the Village of Tequesta and they changed the name to Vina€
Tequesta Park. I would like to point out that the Kiwanis policy is to act as a catalyst in gettis
project going and then get the community to take it over. This was the case with both the atb
association and the park project. We became too busy coaching, keeping up the diamond and
accompanying facilities and running the concession stand that our club was literally tied dow;
with these two projects.
Today there are over one thousand youngsters taking part in the various athletic progra
The Girl Scouts not only have troop meetings in their hor=se but also have day camps is the
summer.
Our club has always been service oriented by helping our youth, our elderly and those
are handicapped, or less fortunate then most people.
We have helped the handicapped "Special Olympics" several times, and with the Billy
Watson Project. The Jupiter Hospital Van Project is a tresneadoas help to our elderly people i
getting to and from their medical appointments. The Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs have
received yearly support from our daub in eacoaraalag our young people to learn about their
government. Since I was a Boy Scout Couasetor for eight years, I can vouch for this being me
well used. The Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs have had our on-going support since we -
been a club. As a matter of fact, Kiwanis wives started Girl Scouts in Hobe Sound. The Jupite
High School Band through leadership of RiavaMan Dr. Al Nessmith, and others in our club, ha
had our long-standing support.
Scholarships for.,deserving students have been awarded over the years and today our c
has formed a Trust Fund for scholarships.'The senior Graduating Night
g gh Party was gives its bid
boost from our club.
Our Kiwanis Club of Jupiter-Tequesta has always opened its arms to any needy and wo:
while project and has responded in a positive way by giving the necessary support and
momentum until the community takes over. Kiwanis is an organization that affords the
businessman of our community to pool their time, talents and resources to help build a Bette:
community in a very positive way. You can be sure that we abide by our motto: " WE BUILD.'
Wouldn't you like to join our club and help to build a better community?
