In 201 S,local government must incorporate technology into its daily senrice provision. Whether it is office and field employees utilizing mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops or the public accessing ity infocmation/seiware applications to pay a utility bill or reserve a recreation facility, technology encompasses just about every Iocal govemment service. I have been very iinvolved in numerous technological developments and applications in my neazly twenty-iwo (22) years of full-time local govemment work and will coniinue the same in Tequesta. Iiy involvernent in technology has aIways been to promote and enfwce worlvemployee eificiencies and w provide for easier pubiic access jpromote zransparncy/accourtability)to city/tawm/village servces at any time from just about anyNher. In 1999 I became the frst departrnent head in Clearwater to regularly utilize and encourage the employee expansion and utilization of laptops (m lieu of desktops) to maximize efficiency and customer service delivery, both internally and earternally. The initiat additional cost of a laptop in the late 1990°s(untill costs equalized in the late 200Q's)was more than offset by the ability to complete tasks smarter and faster as they cauld be accomplished at any time &om multiple locatiQns even in neighborhoocis. Utilizing mobile computing equipment and soflware for multiple tasks including resident interaction,researching/analyzing inforrnation, completing reports, preparing spreadsheefs, and other utilization greatly enhanced over-all municipal efficiency and effectiveness. As the World Wide Web grew fhroughout the 1990's, I ensured dat my city was at the forefront with both a dynamic presence and a valued portal for service access. Numerous software applicatioII.s and electronic communicationsncluding building permit data/access,police summary calls for service, utility billing, and recreation proram reservations quickly became the norna. Technological expansion also allowed for various applications in the field as employes embraced the ability to complete tas.s quicker and more precisety including t.tie more accurate accounting of various infrastructiue from utility lines to fire hydrants o the thasacls of us n ity rights-of way. ver-all, the tec::nological enhancements I dirctly coaxieded and assisted in their pleenes3t-a.tion Pacilitated and ,eatly nhancsd both resiaent engagement twith#heir local government)and employee ma2ivdtion and success.
