TEQUESTA PUBLIC \V'()R1-;:S DEPARTMENT I✓IEIVI01tr1NDUN1
To: James Weinand, Village \tanager
From: Douglas M. Chambers, Director Public Works
Subject: Street Lighting
Date: April 17, 2019
The Following Workshop item references the Street Lights in the Village of 'Tequesta.
The Villagc of Tequesta has a Street Light Maintenance Agreement with FPL where as the Village
pars a monthly "per light fee" for the future, pole, maintenance and energy cost.
Florida Power and Light own the Street Lights.
Very Few Cities own and maintain their Street Lights. Ownership can be very costly when there is
the need to replace feeder wire, transformers, poles, ducts, piping, futures etc.
The Village of Tequesta has entered into a NO COST :agreement with FP1, to convert ALL of the
Street Lights from High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halides to LSD's. The Project is expected to be
completed by the end of May 2019.
The Public Works Department has received several requests from residents to add NJ .AV lighting on
Streets that do not currently have street lighting and requests to add additional hghting on Village
Streets that have existing lighting.
To ensure we receive input from a majority of the residents in the area, the Resident requesting
street lighting will be required to complete the Village of "Tequesta application for street lighting.
(See supplemental document :application for Street Lighting).
If we receive a majority approval from the residents in the area, the Public Works Department will
proceed with completing a NO COST photometric study with Florida Power and Light.
:After the photometric study is completed, I:1)1. will provide the Village with a cost analysis based on
the installation of new lights and the ass( )elated monthly annUal costs.
