Memo
To: Michael R Couzzo, Jr., Village Manager
From: Merlene Reid, HR Director ~~~
Date: March 16, 2009
Re: Contract Renewal -Interim Firefighter Adam Starts
I've attached Chief Weinand's recommendation to renew Adam Stark's 3-year
contract which expires on May 12, 2009. Per the provisions of his previous
contract, an additional 3 year term is permissible by mutual consent. A copy of
the contract to be renewed (appendix A), along with the expired contract
(appendix B), are attached.
The update proposed by Chief Weinand to Section 4 is helpful in that it
clarifies the status of the interim's benefits, should he be take up another
position with the Village. The previous contract only addressed the status of
the benefits upon termination from the Village.
There are currently 2 interim firefighters employed by the Village, without
whose services, the Fire department would be obliged to hire qualified
firefighters to meet their mandatory staff complement.
Memorandum
To: Merlene Reid, Human Resourc~ M r
From: James M. Weinand, Fire Chie
Date: March 2, 2009
Subject: Renewal of Interim Firefi er Stark's Contract
Adam Stark has been employed by us since May 07, 2006, as
an Interim Firefighter. His contract is set to expire on
May 07, 2009. Mr. Stark has expressed interest in renewing
his contact for another term.
It is my recommendation to renew this contract; Mr. Stark
is a valuable asset to the Department and the Village.
I did add a second paragraph to Section 4.
Termination/Separation, which reads as follows: Should the
Employee be offered employment with the Fire Department,
either full or part time, Employee shall suffer no loss of
sick leave, vacation benefits or accrued Education
Assistance Funds. The Employee will be eligible for his
portion of the Education Assistance Funds (defined
below)that he has earned, for a period of time up to twelve
(12) months from his date of employment. Education
Assistance Funds not utilized within this twelve (12) month
time frame shall be forfeited to the Village.
The contract was silent as to what happens if the employee
is switched in another classification, as we did with Mike
Richards.
Attached is an executed contact for Mr. Couzzo and your
consideration and approval.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
