HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_35-99/00_01/13/2000• • RESOLUTION NO. 35-99/00 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING POLLING LOCATIONS, ELECTION OFFICIALS, AND INSPECTORS OF ELECTION, AND ESTABLISHING ELECTION PROCEDURES IN THE EVENT IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO CONDUCT T HE MUNICIPAL ELECTION SCHEDULED TO BE HELD MARCH 14, 2000, AND THE MUNICIPAL RUN-OFF ELECTION, TO BE HELD ON MARCH 28, 2000. WHEREAS, the Village Council adopted the uniform filing and election dates as adopted previously by the Legislature of the State of Florida (House Bill 742), designating the second Tuesday in March as the uniform election date for any election relating to a municipal office; and designating a filing period for candidates for any municipal office in Palm Beach County from noon on the last Tuesday in January through and not later than noon on t:~e second Tuesday in February of the calendar year; and WHEREAS, Section 2.01 of the Village Charter provides that Councilmembers shall be elected at large to Seats 1, 3, and 5 in the even years; and WHEREAS, Section 8 Ordinances designate locations, inspectors procedures, required Elections; of the Village Code of provides that Council may by Resolution polling election officials, and of election, election and other incidentals to conduct the Village and WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta, desires to designate polling locations, election officials, and inspectors of election, and establish election procedures in the event that it • • • becomes necessary to conduct a Municipal Election on March 14, 2000, and Municipal Run-Off Election on March 28, 2000. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA: Section 1. Notice is hereby given that a Municipal Election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2000, and, if necessary, a Municipal Run-Off Election will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2000. The polling locations* for Village of Tequesta voters will be: Precinct 002 - Village Hall - Council Chambers 357 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida Precinct 014 - Tequesta Recreation Center 399 Seabrook Road, Tequesta, Florida * The polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Section 2. In accordance with the provisions of Section 8-2 (b) Village of Tequesta Code of Ordinances, the Village Clerk shall be the Clerk of Elections and shall supervise the conduct of the Municipal Election/Run-Off Election in accordance with the State of Florida Election Laws and Village Ordinances. Section 3. The designated inspectors of election for Precincts 002 and 014 for the March 14, 2000 Municipal Election, to be held in conjunction with the Presidential Preference Primary (County-Wide) Election, will be chosen and appointed by the Supervisor of Elections who will supervise the conduct of the County-Wide Election. The Supervisor of Elections will coordinate arrangements and responsibilities for the conduct of the Village of Tequesta Municipal Election in cooperation with the Village Clerk, who will supervise the conduct of the Municipal/Run-off Election. The designated inspectors of election for Precincts 002 and 014 for the March 28, 2000, Run-off Election, if necessary, will be chosen and appointed by the • • Village Clerk from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections' list of qualified poll workers. Section 4. The Village Manager shall authorize payment of the inspectors of election per the rates in effect for poll workers of the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office in the event that said Municipal Election/Run-Off Election is necessary. Section 5. Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Theresa LePore and Village of Tequesta Village Clerk Joann Manganiello are appointed members of the Village of Tequesta Canvassing Board for the purpose of conducting the Muncipal Election/Run-Off Election. Section 6. The provisions of the Florida Elections Code relating to absentee ballots shall apply to the Village Muncipal Election/Run-Off Election, and absentee balloting shall be administered by the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office. Section 7. The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office is designated to tabulate the ballots cast at the Village Municipal Election and Muncipal Run-Off Election. Section 8. The Village Clerk is hereby authorized to do everything in her power to see to it that the Muncipal Election/Run-Off Election is conducted in accordance with the law. Section 9. The Village Clerk, or her appointed designee, shall provide a copy of this Resolution to the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections. Section 10. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage. • • THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION WAS OFFERED by Councilmember Schauer who moved its adoption.
