DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWRENESS MONTH
OCTOBER 2019
WHEREAS, domestic violence continues to be a major social crisis and healthcare concern
in our society;and
WHEREAS, Florida reported more than 108,046 incidents of domestic violence in 2012
including 191 homicides; Palm Beach County reported 5,391 domestic violence crimes,
including 5 homicides;and
WHEREAS,more than half of the households where domestic violence occurs have a child
under the age of twelve,upon whom the effects are lifelong;and
WHEREAS,the Domestic Violence Council of Palm Beach County is coordinating a
community-based response through advocacy,education and prevention with the goal of
reducing the impact of violence on families;and
WHEREAS,the Domestic Violence Council of Palm Beach County,is sponsoring activities to
commemorate Domestic Violence awareness Month. There will be an"Opening Ceremony"
sponsored by the"Domestic Violence Council"which will be held on October 1st,to kick off
events for the month. There will be an Art Exhibit sponsored by Home Safe,as well as,various
workshops,resource fairs and forums available free to the public and local service providers;
and
WHEREAS,Palm Beach County recognizes the vital importance of designating a time devoted
to increasing the general public's awareness to hold forth a vision of a community free from
domestic violence.
NOW, THEREFORE,I,Abby Brennan,Mayor of the Village of Tequesta,hereby proclaim
the month of October 2019 at Village of Tequesta as:
"DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH"
