Re:
Overview of the Florida-Friendly Landscape Program
Comments:
This is a resubmittal of the backup for this item on November 13. The website
for the Florida-Friendly Landscape (FFL) program is below if you should
wish to learn more. https://ffl.ifas.ufl.edu/index.html FFL is all about using low-
maintenance plants and environmentally sustainable practices. These
practices are summarized as the FFL 9 Principles, which are:
1)Right Plant, Right Place
2)Water Efficiently
3)Fertilize Appropriately
4)Mulch
5)Attract Wildlife
6)Manage Yard Pests Responsibly
7)Recycle Yard Waste (Compost)
8)Reduce Stormwater Runoff
9)Protect the Waterfront
FFL is actually several programs under the FFL banner. These programs are:
1)Florida Yards & Neighborhoods (FYN) Homeowner Program
2)FFL for Community Associations
3)FYN Builder & Developer Program
4)Green Industry- Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) Training &
Program
In addition, there are apps and resources. Check out the resource entitled
“Florida-Friendly Plant Data Base” at this link:
http://floridayards.org/fyplants/index.php
FFL can be considered as the overall basis from which we approach education
and information for best management practices for the Tequesta physical
environment in most neighborhoods. The EAC should decide if there is a
need to pursue FFL.
