HomeMy WebLinkAboutHandouts_Environmental Advisory Committee_Tab 06_1/8/2020 (4)January 8, 2020: EAC & Student Connections
These are ideas for ways of integrating the EAC with our community, starting with
students. After speaking to a few parents and teachers, they seem to think it's a
great idea. We can ask them to inquire the kids, if they agree a
EAC rep speaking at local school science classes and environmental group meetings
quarterly/semi annually etc to share what we are working on
Katie- how often do your classes and after school groups change? Quarterly? Semesters? Do we
need approval from the administration for this? I'd like to make this a regular thing.
My Environmental Club meets about twice a month for meetings at lunch in my classroom and
we do about three-four beach cleanups a semester. My AP Environmental class meets almost
everyday, we have a rotating schedule, and it's a year long class.
Student reps coming to Food Truck night to share with the community what they've been
working on to forward environmental initiatives in our community
Food Truck night is first Fridays from October to April. Very loose structure- we're basically
just there talking to people. If the students want, we can organize a demonstration or table for
them too. What do they want to communicate to the community? What are their frustrations?
Ideas? Concerns?
Students would most likely love to volunteer at the Tequesta food trucks night and talk to people
about initiatives to be more environmentally friendly.
EAC member assisting students in approaching local restaurants/businesses on
environmental friendly options for take out and packaging.
The EAC can help guide the students on protocol and/or making relationships with business
owners in order to promote friendly alternatives.
My Environmental Club students have made their goal this year to reach out to restaurants
regarding their plastic and styrofoam use to try and inform/persuade restaurants to use more
sustainable methods. So, they'd love some help doing this mission!
