Discussion Ordinance 6-20 (Adopted on 10/8/20)
At the September 28th Council Workshop staff offered a temporary sign permit associated with
special events or reoccurring special events. During the meeting there was comments from the
public regarding signage for businesses. Council asked that the discussion for business signage and
permits for temporary signs be added to a future workshop.
Summary of Off -Premises Temporary Sign Permit.
(A) Off -premises special event signs during weekends. In conjunction with a single special event or
reoccurring special event, temporary off -premises special event signs are allowed as follows:
(1) The placement of such signs is limited to a time period between Thursday and 6:00 p.m.
Sunday (weekend period).
(2) A maximum number of 10 such freestanding signs may be placed.
(3) Such signs shall be limited to the non -paved portion of any public right-of-way that is situated
outside of any sidewalk, drainage ditch or swale, or traffic median, but no closer than 2 feet back
from the edge of pavement or back of curb.
(4) Such signs shall be prohibited in a public right-of-way location that abuts asingle-family use
along its front property line without prior consent of the property owner or lawful occupant of the
property.
(5) Such signs shall be placed at least 20 feet from any other off -premises special event sign on
the same side of the road.
(6) Such signs shall be a maximum of 3 square feet in area and a maximum of 3 feet in height.
(7) No more than a cumulative total of Goff -premises special event sign permits per organization
or business establishment may be issued in a calendar year for single special events.
(8) No more than a cumulative total of toff -premises special event sign permits per organization
or business establishment may be issued in a calendar year for re -occurring special events and
no more than 2 such permits shall be active at the same time.

(9) Except for a reoccurring special event, each permit for an off -premises special event sign(s)
shall be only for one weekend period.
Additional notes
- No signs shall be placed more than the limited time between Thursday and Sunday;
-All signs must be removed no later than 6:00 p.m. Sunday;
-Signs shall be placed in accordance with the Village of Tequesta Code of Ordinances Sec. [TBD];
-Signs shall not be placed in roadway medians;
-The Village of Tequesta decal must be placed in the upper right hand corner of the sign on the side
of the sign facing traffic. Any sign found without a decal or otherwise in violation of the permit
conditions, locations, or the sign ordinance will be removed without notice;
-Applicant is responsible for all persons placing signs for the event or organization being aware of and
complying with the permit conditions and the sign ordinance.
Recommended Fee for each sign $25.00. This fee will cover administrative fees.
Fine of $50-00 for a first violation; $100 for a first repeat violation; and $150 for subsequent
repeat violations and that each sign in violation is a separate offense.

CONDITIONS OF PERMIT
• No signs shall be placed more than the limited time between Thursday and Sunday;

I certify that I have read and agree to comply with the foregoing conditions. I acknowledge and understand
that violation of the conditions of this permit or the Village of Tequesta sign ordinance may result in
issuance of a citation and a fine of $50.00 for a first violation; $100 for a first repeat violation; and $150 for
subsequent repeat violations and that each sign in violation is a separate offense.
