Workshop STAFF Meeting: Staff Contact �� MEMO Workshop - Oct 04 2021 Jeremy Allen, Village Manager Department: Manager ez 0_ Discussion on Temporarily Increasing the Number of Authorized Positions in the Fire Department Temporarily increase the number of authorized positions in the Fire Dept. by one for a Firefighter/Medic position. This is an un-budgeted expense that staff is proposing to assist with maintaining minimal staffing levels while the department works through a sudden medical absence and pending retirements. It is anticipated that the Fire Department will experience 3 retirements in the next 1-4 years. The inclusion of a FF/Medic will help with succession planning for the department as well as cover the medical absence for an undetermined amount of time. The position will be absorbed in projecting retirements and the authorized positions will revert back to 21 certified positions (includes Captains) without further considerations. Staff is proposing to cover portions of the additional expenses with some OT savings, ARPA related expenditures, potential retirements, and other savings related to personnel throughout the Village in the FY2021-22.
