HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Miscellaneous_1/25/2022MINUTES BUSINESS FORUM MEETING VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FL JANUARY 25, 2022 2:00 PM COUNCIL CHAMBERS CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order by Tessa McKay at 2:05 p.m. Present were: Vice Mayor Kyle Stone Councilmember Molly Young Amy Angelo, owner of Oceana Coffee Tessa McKay, Recreation & Business Relations Coordinator AGENDA ITEMS 1. Sidewalk Sale Planning The dates 3/11-3/13 were agreed upon for the Sidewalk Sale. It was noted that the dates coincide with spring break for school children. Vice Mayor Stone suggested that it be communicated that retail stores should run their own sales in conjunction with Sidewalk Sale. 2. Business Programs Updates The Business Forum participants discussed the recent Shop VOT event and detailed the positive things that happened and discussed in depth the items that could be improved upon, such as: ensuring all participant logos were included on marketing materials, assistance is provided if needed, adding deadlines to receiving logos and giveaways, announcing the winners at a food truck event, and possibly renaming the event. Ms. Angelo stressed that the story of shopping local needed to be told throughout all events and marketing campaigns; and Vice -Mayor Stone noted it was important for businesses to take an active role as well and questioned how business participation could be encouraged. Suggestions included: businesses utilizing social media, television advertisements, and creating a buzz at events. Ms. McKay suggested a two-step process. In the first step, businesses would donate and in the second step, the event would be advertised and marketed to the public. This would ensure all participants had ample time to provide their logo and donated items prior to the event marketing. 3. Introduction to the Downtown Master Plan Charette Ms. McKay explained that the Downtown Master Plan Charette was an effort to solicit resident and stakeholder input about the commercial corridor. Once available, the dates for the charrette will be published on all of the Village's communication channels. It was confirmed that the host committee member openings had been posted on the Village's communication channels. Councilmember Young emphasized that the importance of utilizing all communication channels that are available to the Village. Councilmember Young also requested that the attachment be stamped with "sample" to make it clear that the schedule and other details were not yet finalized. 4. Any Other Matters/Open Discussion It was noted that it would be beneficial to get more Village businesses involved in bridge mitigation efforts, as well as the Town of Jupiter. Councilmember Young also brought up the idea of expanding our communication reach beyond Tequesta residents. Ms. Angelo stressed the importance of telling the story of shopping locally, possibly through a issuing a challenge to residents to ask them to shop locally a certain percentage of the time. There was also some discussion about the time and place for Business Forum meetings. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 3:02 pm.
