Valued stakeholder,
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is submitting a nomination for the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse
Outstanding Natural Area (ONA) for consideration as part of "The Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail."
The Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail is a network of over 500 incredible wildlife viewing sites within
the State of Florida that allows millions of people each year to participate in wildlife viewing activities. The
Trail is coordinated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission who recently opened a
nomination period for new sites that offer these opportunities. Inclusion in the Trail will increase awareness and
highlight some of the amazing opportunities for wildlife viewing on the public lands within the ONA.
As part of the nomination process, the BLM is seeking letters from interested stakeholders to demonstrate the
wide support the public lands at the ONA have for environmental education, interpretation, and wildlife/habitat
dependent passive recreational opportunities. We would sincerely appreciate a letter of support from you to
include in our nomination package. If you have the time and would be willing to submit such a letter it would be
most helpful to have by February 22, 2023. You may email your letter to me at kmoore ,blm.gov and 1 will
include it with our submission.
To save time, we've attached a sample letter to elaborate on if you so wish.
We thank you in advance for your time, attention, and continued support of the ONA.
Kindly,

Dear Ms. Ali,

Thank you for the opportunity to express our strong support for the inclusion of Jupiter Inlet
Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area in the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. Jupiter Inlet
Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area is a truly unique and beautiful place. It is home to a wide
variety of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species. The site boasts several
different habitats including scrub, tropical hammock, mangrove swamp and shoreline, which
results in the opportunity to see a wide variety of bird species and other wildlife, all while walking
on the 2.5 miles of trails.
As a small site, located in an urban setting, the area is easily accessible and offers a great
opportunity to observe, not only the rare migrant bird species, but also our own "backyard birds"
making it an excellent spot for birders of all levels. The site would benefit from increased citizen
monitoring, promotion of desirable passive recreation, and increased opportunities for
education and interpretation outreach. The local communities would benefit from the new
visitors it would bring to the area.
The Village of Tequesta Council strongly encourages you to consider including Jupiter inlet
Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area as a site on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Molly Young
