SUBJECT: Master Plan Library Site Options; Agenda Item
Attached are copies of the Tequesta Town Center Master Plan
which indicate potential options for the location of the Palm
Beach County Library. Although not perfect, these sketches help
one to envision the benefits and impacts of relocating the
library site to a different location. Each site option has been
provided with road frontage pursuant to the requests of the
library staff. Mr. Jerry Brownlee, or a member of his library
staff, may be present to offer their input to these various
options.
For what its worth, my preferences are as follows:
o Library Concept A - This option places the library where
the "City Hall" was previously indicated. This option
is attractive because it will serve to stimulate the
Lighthouse Plaza property in that it can be proposed as
an out -parcel of the same. This would not require the
provision of additional layers of asphalt for parking
since the same already exists in this location. This is
a choice piece of property with prime frontage on
Tequesta Drive and the new proposed Main Street. The
building could be designed in such a way as to take
advantage of being at this pinnacle overlooking Tequesta
Drive and the southern entrance to the Town Center.
o Library Concept G - This site is at the northwest corner
of the intersection of Main Street and an alternative
east -west street that would run south of Saint Jude's
Church terminating at Old Dixie Highway and U.S. One.
This site is significant in that it would draw people to
the center of the Master Plan. It would have a prime
location with duel roadway frontage. It also has fairly
close proximity to the Post Office, serving as a
compromise to the other option of placing the library
directly south of the Post Office which is a typical
development pattern. The library would also be
conveniently located to the Post Office parking lot and
the Plaza parking area which may prove beneficial for
its special events parking needs.
