MEETING MINUTES
OCTOBER 2 5 , 1 9 8 9
I . The Tequesta Community Appear : nce Board held a regularly scheduled
meeting at the Village Hall , � = r Tequesta Drive, Tequesta , Florida,
on Wednesday, October 25 , 198 . The meeting was called to order by •
Leslie Cook , Chairman at 9 : 45 A.M. Community Appearance Board
members present were : Paul Cobe-n , James Coble , Claudette Dalack and
Janet Gettig. Joanne Scully, Building Department .-Administrative
Secretary, sat in for Scott. D. Ldd , Building Official .
II . APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The Agenda was approved as submitted.
III . APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES '
A) C.A.B. Meeting of October 11 , 1989
Page 2 , next to last paragraph , change Coben to Coble . With
this correction the Minutes were approved as submitted.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
A) Application from C.R. McDonald, 1 Yacht Club Place, for the
installation of a forest green mesh satellite dish, 12 feet in
diameter, ground mounted in rear yard, with hedge placed
around the dish .

Michelle Suidbur,. represented C .R. `leDonald . Ms . Sudbury
explained to the Board that plans included the planting of a
hedge to camouflage the dish from being seen from the river .
Paul Cohen moved to approve the installation as submitted .
Janet. Gettig seconded the motion . The vote was :

Leslie Cook for
the motion therefore passed and was adopted.
B) Application from Marc Haisfield, R.H. Properties Co. , for an
additional house color, and for a 13 .5 square foot subdivision
sign for Key West Village Subdivision.
Mark Haisfield was seeking an additional color of grey for the
housing development . The sign applied for was sandblasted
redwood with a pink background , white border and white
letters . Mr. Haisfield stated the hedge in front of the
project which had become infected with a fungus was to be
replaced with a healthy hedge. Janet Gettig moved to approve
the application with the color grey as submitted, but where
the application says black lettering for the sign should be
changed to white . James Coble seconded the motion . The vote
on the motion was :

the motion was therefore passed and adopted.

C) An application from Dan May of Ferrin Signs for signs for Bank
Atlantic, 710 U.S . Hwy. One. North (County Line Plaza) .
Mr . Jody Plitt represented Ferrin Signs .
1 . Freestanding monument sign - 5 ' x 8 ' , internally
illuminated, Bank Atlantic Blue background with white
plex copy.
2 . Three sets of letters on building. Letters are reverse
backlit channel letters, Bank Atlantic Blue.
Janet Gettig moved to approve the application as
submitted, except for the landscaping, which shall be as
follows :
1 . Landscaping to be used around the free-standing
sign shall be 2 feet in height at planting , and
shall be from the plant list submitted in the
original landscape plan for Bank Atlantic ,
except that the varieties of Liriope and Day
Lily will not be used . All other plants in the
list are acceptable. The entire island will be
planted - not grassed . The planted area will
be enclosed with curbing.
2. Also to be provided is a modification to the
original landscape plan to incorporate plants
intended for the area just west of the original
sign location.
3. A specific revised landscape plan of the area
adjacent to the original sign location shall be
submitted with the Site Plan Review package.

D) An application from Sign Center for a 34 square foot, double-
faced. internally illuminated, free-standing monument sign for
Ocean Parks Properties, 218 U. S . Hwy. One, North .
Mr. Paul Doetzer represented Ocean Parks Properties . The
Board felt the proposed sign was too busy with wording , and
with too many colors . Also , the Board requested that exact
color samples of the building be submitted for review. The
Board also felt the sign was too large , out of proportion for
the size of the building .
Paul Coben moved to table the application, allowing applicant
to resubmit the sign proposal with fewer colors, a
reconsideration of the content of the sign, and a specific
plan for the landscaping . Claudette Dallack seconded the
motion. The vote was :

the motion therefore was adopted.
E) An application from Sign Center for a 60 square foot wall sign
for Jupiter's Place for Ribs, 243 U.S. Hwy. One, South
(Village Square Shopping Center) .
Mr. Tom Doetzer represented Jupiter' s Place for Ribs. Mr.
Coben stated he had no difficulty with the sign itself but had
great difficulty with the word Jupiter on the sign, when it is
a Tequesta business .
Mr. Coben moved to approve the sign without the word Jupiter.
Mr. Coble seconded the motion. There was no vote and the
motion was withdrawn.

Other Board members questioned the maroon and brown colors n
the sign , as well as a banner presently being displayed that
was without question in violation of local codes . Further
discussion related to the modificaiton of the wooden facade
which had not been reviewed or approved by the CAB . Pending
resolution of this item, Janet Gettig moved to table the
application . James Coble seconded the motion . The vote was:

the motion therefore was adopted.
Applicant was instructed to change the word "Jupiter" on the
sign to "Tequesta" , or leave the town name off , and change the
sign colors to black and white to match other signs in the
mall .
V. ANY OTHER MATTERS
Leslie Cook asked for an update on her letter to Village Manager Tom
Bradford regarding the railroad posts . Mr. ' Coben answered that
there were some tough negotiations with the road repairs and the
Village felt they did not want to approach a separate issue at this
time .
