T EQUESTIk PLANKING COMM I S S=ON
M=NUT E S OF' MEETING
OCTOBER MC) , 1988
The Tequesta Planning Commission held its meeting on Monday,
October 10, 1988 at 7:30 P.M. , in the Village Hall, 357 Tequesta
Drive, Tequesta, Florida.
Members present were: Dr. Stanley B. Jacobs, Chairman; Mary S.
Corr, Vice-Chairman; Alfred S. De Mott, Acting Secretary; James Pilz
and James Stergas, members. Dr. Jacobs introduced Fred Elsaesser as
the potential new member of the Planning Commission.
The minutes of September 12, 1988 meeting were approved as
read.
Old Business:
The Chairman announced that the Palm Tree program has finally
been completed and the sod and sprinkler system are installed.
However, the entry medians is still on hold.
Jim Pilz brought up the matter of public vacancy. Mary Corr
and Jim Pilz suggested that a workshop committee meeting be set up
to see what could be done. Alex Webster has purchased Peter's
Restaurant, with others, to make a public restaurant. Dr. Jacobs
will take this matter up and report back to the members at the next
scheduled meeting.
Jim Pilz' Plan for Route #707 - Jim Pilz submitted a copy of
the proposal to beautify the area near the bridge. Funding is to be
committed before submission to the Village Council. A right-of-way
permit is not needed from the County and the Village of Tequesta
would be in charge. The Village will give us a letter of approval
for the town. A copy of the proposal is attached for informational
purposes. The total estimated cost is $7,300. Gary Preston,
Director of Public Works & Recreation, would like to bring in water.
The first step, it is assumed, would be to present the plan to
Community Appearance Board for approval? After all approvals are
obtained, it will be submitted to the Village Council for their
approval. A parking space for 14 cars to park on the bridge is
being considered. Jim Stergas would like to see that a letter from
the Village should state that parking should be exempted. However,
Jim Pilz stated that it is not possible.

Jim Pilz, Acting President, Beach Road Association will hold a
Special Meeting on October 24th to seek approval and funds for the
said project. Dr. Jacobs, Chairman, Planning Commission asked a
motion from the members for approval of the plan and it was moved
by Mary Corr and seconded by Eloda Tangney.
Gee & Jenson's plan for corners, median and landscaping was
discussed. A discussion was centered around having some sign in the
middle that says "Tequesta" with a wall and landscaping on either
side. Dr. Jacobs commented that he still felt strongly that some
type of sign should be placed in the center of the median with a
wall and landscaped on either side of the drive. Jim Pilz stated
that any sign should be minimized and landscaping on both sides and
middle of the median. However, Jim Stergas was in favor of a sign
in the middle and the walls and landscaping on the sides. After a
lengthy discussion, the Committee was in favor of having a
"Tequesta" sign in the middle of median, nicely landscaped with a
complimentary wall on either side of entrance also nicely landscaped
and illuminated.
NEW BUSINESS
At present, all taxpayers share the cost of drainage in new
building projects. It is suggested that a bill will be sent to each
resident plus a separate bill based on square footage for the
commercial property. This is submitted for informational purposes
at this time.
BIKE PATH
For information purposes, the Tequesta Planning Commission
members are in favor of a bicycle path along the road.

Manager. What are the priorities?

Dr. Jacobs, Chairman, Tequesta Planning Commission, brought
up the fact that at the last Village Council Meeting, the Village
Manager wanted to do away with the Tequesta Planning Commission.
However, the Village Council has extended the Planning Commission
for another six months. Dr. Jacobs objected and cited reasons to
keep the Tequesta Planning Commission. It was mentioned that a Code
Enforcement Board would be formed and that Dr. Jacobs and Jim
Stergas would be invited to head this Board and become members.
The Building Inspector is in favor of this. We now have a Code
Inspector. They want an Enforcement Board. A member may be sued for
any problems that might arise. The Committee is not enthusiastic
about the possibility of this Board. They feel that the citizens
would not be in favor of this. It should be handled by the Building
Department.
The next meeting is scheduled on Monday, November 14, 1988 at
7:30 P.M. in the Village Hall Council Chambers.
