Discussion on Request by VoLo Foundation to Issue a Proclamation Recognizing VoLo Foundation's
Florida Climate Week from October 2, 2023 - October 8, 2023 and Request from Race to Zero to Issue
a Proclamation to Celebrate National Clean Energy Week September 25, 2023 - September 29, 2023
SUMMARY:
VOLO FOUNDATION REQUEST
The VoLo Foundation, a private Florida -based family organization has requested the Village issue a
Proclamation proclaiming Florida Climate Week as October 2, 2023 - October 8, 2023. VoLo advises
they are dedicated to educating audiences on creating a sustainable and safe planet for future
generations.
Per VoLo, the Foundation's annual Florida Climate WeekTM (FCW) is a virtual, free -to -access event
scheduled from October 2nd to 8th, 2023, coinciding with Energy Awareness Month. This event aims
to bring together industry leaders, front-line advocates, businesses, and individuals alike to address the
urgency of the climate crisis and its impact on our state. Florida Climate Week will focus on solutions
to reduce carbon emissions and create more resilient communities.
VoLo has noted that Florida is ranked as the second most susceptible place in the world to climate -
related changes. They have further stated data shows some of the rising sea levels, river flooding, high
carbon emissions, and wildfires pose a significant risk, with projections suggesting that a substantial
portion of Florida could be submerged underwater by 2050. These changes also lead to more frequent
hurricanes that threaten our homes and livelihoods. It is crucial that we take action now; this
proclamation holds immense importance for the people of Florida.
For more information about the event, please visit https://floridaclimateweek.ora/. VoLo Foundation is
a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization.

NCEW is a bipartisan event. Florida Governor DeSantis recognized NCEW with a proclamation last
_year as have a number of Florida cities over the years.
This year Florida Race to Zero will assist any interested communities with customizing National
Clean Energy Week proclamations to include localized data highlighting the economic benefits that
clean energy generates.

Agenda Item #1.
The Florida Race to Zero is a friendly competition between Florida's mayors designed to showcase how
their cities are leading the way to climate neutrality through the Cities Race to Zero pledge.
The mayors across Florida have all made ambitious pledges to make their cities carbon neutral. The
mission of this coalition is to serve as a platform to amplify their work, collaborate with one another
and encourage other mayors and cities to "join the race" and make similar pledges.
