Re: Palm Beach County ALS ‘sport Issue
As you are aware, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has made a proposal to the County
Commission to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance service transport. I'm
obligated to make you aware of ramifications that could occur with this change.
1. If Palm Beach County Fire Rescue is awarded its Certificate of Necessity
(C.O.N.), Jupiter Ambulance, Inc. will not be able to provide ambulance service
to the Village of Tequesta. This proposal was originally to be decided in May
1994, now this decision has been delayed until December 20, 1994.
2. Plans for implementing ambulance transportation for the Village of Tequesta has
been on going, since we were made aware of this proposal by Palm Beach
County Fire Rescue. However, the application deadline for the C.O.N. process,
in regards to ALS transport is October 15, 1994. I have instructed Lt.
Nathanson to apply for this licenses in case Jupiter Ambulance, Inc. would no
longer be in business. This time the C.O.N. Licenses will be good for four (4)
years, if we do not apply by October 15 th, we will not be eligible type of
licensing until October of 1998.
3. In order to secure the necessary equipment to provide ambulance
transportation, equipment orders must be placed by September 16,1994.
I request that this item be placed on the next Public Safety Committee meeting to
receive some direction from Council on this important matter.
