TO: Thomas G. Bradford, Village Manager
FROM: Carl R. Roderick, Chief of Police
DATE: July 21 , 1994
SUBJECT: Review of Reserve Officer Program.
Having gone through the hiring process consisting of advertising,
receiving and reviewing applications , T.A.B.E. testing, background
investigations, oral review board, Chief 's interview, physical and
psychological evaluation, we finally put on the extra five reserves
we were looking for which made a total of six.
These reserves will be going through the Field Training Program
which will take about six to eight months, depending on how many
hours they put in. At this time, we are requiring a minimum. of 12
hours per month, however, some of the reserves have been riding 8
to 16 hours every weekend. The reserves will be subject to the same
training as our full-time officers and once they have satisfied the
field training requirements and completed a 40 hour radar class,
they will be able to work the extra time we have committed to
enforcement of traffic and thru-trucks on Country Club Drive as
well as the needed backup capability on busy weekend shifts .
We lost one regular officer during his probationary period and we
were able to immediately replace him with one of the reserves who
had finished his Field Training program and lost no shift coverage .
