BUDGET AMOUNT N/A FUNDING SOURCES: N/A DID YOU OBTAIN 3 QUOTES? ❑ Yes 0 N/A AMOUNT AVAILABLE N/A EXPENDITURE AMOUNT: N/A IS THIS A PIGGYBACK: ❑ Yes M N/A COMMENTS/EXPLANATION ON SELECTIONN/A Fire Prevention Week September 2023 Page 8 of 675 Agenda Item #1pw"c Of y 6E OF re,GA 1 i � O ��N COUN` FIRE PREVENTION WEEK OCTOBER 81h through 141h, 2023 WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta recognizes the significant personal and economic toll fire takes on its citizens; and WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta understands that safety measures can significantly cut the risk of fire; and WHEREAS, a fire can spread rapidly and a quick escape from the home increases the chances of survival; and WHEREAS, 79 percent of fire deaths nationwide happen in the home; and WHEREAS, smoke detectors have been proven an effective lifesaver, having helped to cut the home fire death rate by one half since their introduction to the general public; and WHEREAS, working smoke detectors are essential in every household and should be installed on every level of a home and outside of each separate sleeping area; and WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta is reaching outto its citizens with a message of fire safety during Fire Prevention Week 2023. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Village Mayor Molly Young, do hereby proclaim the week of October 8-14, 2023, as Fire Prevention Week. This week is commemorated nationally and supported by the public safety efforts of fire departments, schools and other safety advocates. I call upon the people of the Village of Tequesta to remember the Fire Prevention Week 2023, and remind our residents, "Fire won't wait. Plan your escape" and urge all citizens to heed the advice to install and maintain smoke detectors to ensure they work, have a meeting place away from the home if there is a fire, and make a home escape plan that caters for all members of your household. This years' theme is "Cooking Safety starts with YOU! Pay Attention to Fire Prevention! In Witness Whereof, we have here with set our hand and caused to be affixed the Official Seal of the Village of Tequesta this 14`h day of September 2023.
