Re: DUI Enforcement
In response to your question concerning specific DUI enforcement efforts.
The Department has not participated in any programs concerning the enforcement of
DUI arrests. The number of DUI arrests department wide has increased significantly
over the last year. There is no one specific reason for this increase and it is not the
result of a particular program or directed enforcement effort.
Attached is a copy of a fax I sent to M.A.D.D. listing the DUI totals for the years 1995
and 1996 to date. This was at the request of the local M.A.D.D. chapter, and as a result
officer Weinblatt was recognized at a "Top Cop" luncheon sponsored by M.A.D.D.
The department's attitude toward DUI enforcement remains the same as it has always
been. Our officers recognize the threat posed by drivers under the influence, and every
appropriate action is taken to insure the safety of the residents and motorists in the
Village.
