Consider approval of the Constitution Park Skate Park renovation project.
SUMMARY: NNW 9W
Consider approval of the Constitution Park Skate Park renovation project. The American Ramp
Company will complete this project for $160,295.46. Currently, the skate park equipment is 20 years
old and it is increasingly difficult to locate replacement parts. When it comes to skate parks,
playgrounds and other play elements that are used by the public, safety is the number one priority.

TO: Council Members
Jeremy Allen, Village Manger
FROM: Greg Corbitt, Parks &Recreation Director
DATE: December 14, 2023
SUBJECT: American Ramp Company Proposal
The current Skate Park is 20 years old and has served the residents well over the years. However,
the park is outdated and needs numerous repairs. Furthermore, the manufacturer (Skate
Wave) of the skate equipment is no longer in business. This makes things very difficult to find
replacement parts to match the existing equipment. When it comes to skate parks, playgrounds
and other play elements that are used by the public, safety and wellbeing is the number one
priority.
After speaking with current Staff and past Staff that have worked out at the Skate Park, and
having been through the first skate park design 20 years ago, I would like to share both staff s
and parent's comments that have occurred over the years and things to be cautious about:
• There will be users of the park from all over once word is out that there is a new and free
place to utilize

Agenda Item #25.
• The park will not be just for Tequesta Kids, Teens, and Adults
• There will definitely be a clash of various user groups (i.e., skateboards, bikes,
rollerblades and scooters)
• Use of alcohol and vaping
• Drug dealing
• There will be foul language used
• There will be no separated times for age groups
• The park will be utilized after hours
• There will be graffiti and vandalism
• Fence also gets destroyed from kids climbing on it going back and forth from
Constitution Park to Skate Park because they don't want to walk around
• Kids don't wear their helmets, regardless of rules/enforcement.
• The trash and littering is difficult to stay on top of. Alcohol cans/bottles, cigarettes, vape
juice, vapes, etc. were common to find in the grass.
As you already know, the Village has change over the last 20 years with regards to
population/demographics. Back 20 years ago, the location of the Skate Park worked for its time
period.
However, today we have three times the number of people from all surrounding areas using
Constitution Park.

I believe the design submitted to you will service the Village Community of all ages for many
years to come.
