Memorandum
To : Village Council
From: Thomas G. Bradford, Village Manager ,---7i
Date: August 20, 1998
Subject: Consideration of Bid Award for Landscaping Maintenance
Services; Agenda Item
Currently, Rood Landscaping does all of Tequesta' s landscape
maintenance services . Rood has been the successful bidder in the
past for the work in question. Most recently, Rood Landscaping
won the bid award for the landscaping services which occur on
Water Department property.
It has been. at least seven or eight years since Tequesta bid the
contract for the work not on Water Department property. Staff
believed it was time to determine if a savings could be realized
by re-bidding the work and to fill a void in the departure of one
of . our Public Works employees . Additionally, we felt that there
was some benefit to dividing the work areas into two sections (A
and B) to open up the opportunity for there to be two service
providers for this work. The thought behind two service
providers was that in the event that one company should dissolve,
that the other would be there to pick up the work.
Alternatively, it was thought that bids might be more favorable
to the Village if a landscape services provider desired to have
both sectors of the Village' s work.
Jim Park, AICP, of Gee & Jenson prepared the bid specifications
for the Village, administered the advertisement for the same and
made the bid award recommendation to the Village. Bids were
opened on July 21, 1998, and the results of such are contained
within the attached correspondence provided to you from Gary
Preston.
It is recommended that area A be awarded to Rood Landscape
Company in the amount of $93 , 708 and that area B be awarded to
Terracon Services, Inc . of Jupiter, Florida in the amount of
$85, 800 .
Should you have any questions relative to these recommendations,
staff will be happy to provide answers to the same.
