Subject: Cost Sharing of July 4th Fireworks Display; Agenda
Item
You may recall that in the past, Tequesta, along with other
municipalities, participated in the cost sharing of the annual
Independence Day fireworks display at Carlin Park. For the last
two years, the fireworks display has been discontinued due to
community concern over crowd control at Carlin Park.
Now with the construction of the Jupiter Stadium, a proper venue
has been created for a family oriented Independence Day fireworks
display. In this regard, Jupiter has made arrangements to use
the Jupiter Stadium for July fireworks presentations or both July
3 and 4, following regular Jupiter Hammerheads baseball games on
those same evenings. Jupiter has now asked its neighbors if they
wish to cost share as in the past.
In the past, the cost of the fireworks display was based upon
each municipality' s percentage share of total population. If
this same formula is used, the municipal cost breakdown would be
as follows :
JUPITER STADIUM FIREWORKS DISPLAY COST BREAKDOWN
Municipality Population * % of Population % of Cost
Juno Beach 2, 845 7 .3% $1, 095
Jupiter 30, 992 79 . 6% $11, 940
Jupiter Inlet
Colony 414 1. 1% $165
Tequesta 4, 686 12% $1, 800
TOTAL 38, 937 100% $15, 000
* April 1, 1997 Florida Estimates of Population, Bureau of
Economic and Business Research, University of Florida
Each year, around the first of July, families in Tequesta begin
calling Village Hall, wanting to know where our fireworks display
is to be located.- There is a fairly high demand for watching the
fireworks . It would be beneficial to be able to tell our
citizens that Tequesta participates in the Jupiter Stadium
fireworks and to direct them to the same.

I would recommend that the Village Council authorize Tequesta
participation in the Jupiter Stadium fireworks display this year
and direct the Village Manager to budget for the same in' the
future, based upon Tequesta ' s percentage of population.
