Memorandum
To: Thomas G. Bradford, Villag- .• r
From: James M. Weinand, Fire C -
Date: October 3, 1997
Subject: NAMAC Dispatch Center
At the last NAMAC Coordinating Council Meeting in Lake Park, the elected officials
were given an update on the progress of the countywide communications project. It
was noted that the countywide system calls for four dispatch communication hubs that
would be linked together to provide countywide communications. One hub was to be
located in the south county area, which would serve the cities of Boca Raton, Boynton
Beach, Delray Beach, etc. Another hub would be located in West Palm Beach, which
would serve the municipalities in the central portion of Palm Beach County. Another
hub was to be located in western Palm Beach County to service the Glades area. The
other hub was to be located in northern Palm Beach County which would service
Tequesta and other municipalities with NAMAC. The countywide communications plan
says that the proposed NAMAC Communications Center could be this communications
hub for the northern section of Palm Beach County.
After further discussion in this meeting, Mayor Wagner from Lake Park requested that
all municipalities pass resolutions supporting the NAMAC dispatch concept to solidify
our support in pursuing this common communications center further. As you are aware,
we passed a resolution in 1995 authorizing $1,000 to be expended for a feasibility study
regarding this centralized dispatch center. This feasibility study showed an actual
decrease in costs for municipalities that were providing dispatch service currently.
During this meeting, it was stated that after October 1998, the Sheriffs Department will
not be providing free dispatch service to the municipalities that are currently receiving it.
Therefore, if you see fit, please forward this to Village Council to pass a resolution
supporting this concept so further details and costs can be identified so that we can
make a decision on whether this is the type of service that the Village of Tequesta
desires.
If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me.
