(b) All nonconforming signs within the Village or within an
area annexed to the Village shall be removed prior to the
expiration of five ( 5 ) years after the date of passage of
this revised sign code or after annexation, whichever
applies.
(c) The period of time for removal shall begin upon the
passage of this Zoning Ordinance for signs within the
Village and upon the . effective date of annexation for
signs within the area being annexed. The Building
Official shall mail notice :of existence of nonconforming
signs to the owner or to any other person in control of
the premises on which said nonconforming sign exists.
(4) Conforming, Nonoonforming Signs Prohibited ;on ,SameF.Lot
(a) No conforming sign or sign structure shall be erected on
the same plot with an existing nonconforming sign until
the nonconforming sign has been removed or made
conforming.
(0) Prohibitions in all Zoning Categories:
( 1 ) No blinking, flashing, intermittent or reflective type signs
shall be permitted. Each light must be constant in intensity
of illumination.
(2) No sign shall extend above the roof height unless backed by, a
parapet wall extending the entire length of the building and
with the same or greater height than the sign.
(3) No neon tubing or other lineal use of lighting in outlining
either the sign or the building or structure shall be
permitted.
(4) No painted wall signs shall be permitted. Lettering on walls
must be of raised design.
(5 ) Signs on vehicles prohibited. Signs attached to or placed on
a vehicle (including trailers); that are parked on public or
private property shall be prohibited. This provision is not
to be construed as prohibiting the identification of a firm or
its principal products on a vehicle operating during the
normal hours of business, provided, however, that no subh
vehicle shall be parked on public or private property with
signs attached or placed on such vehicle primarily for the
purpose of advertising a business or firm or calling attention
to the location of a business or firm.
( 6 ) No political campaign signs are permitted.

SUBJECT: Village Square Shopping Center

Installation of a new free-standing main pylon sign.
•
Tom, the Community Appearance Board reviewed the above referenced
project on June 9, 1993.
. The following concerns were expressed by the Board regarding this
proposed project:
•
1. That the word "Plaza" should be deleted from the sign copy
so as to read "Blockbuster at Village Square" instead of
"Blockbuster Plaza at Village Square". This requested
change for consideration by the property owner was
unanimously supported by, the Board and that the applicant,
Mr. - Toth of SignCraft Signs, Inc. , take this request to
the property owner.

2. That the • planter size be increased at each end of the
planter in order . to afford , a planting area in front of •
each support column on the east and west ends of the
planter.

3. That the decorative details around . the columns and the
planter be painted white.
4. The Board objected to the use of Areca. Palms and Ixora due
to their not being freeze tolerant.
•
Motion to approve the proposed project subject to the following
conditions:
1. . .The color of the columns and planter are to match the

color of the existing building.
2. That there be a decorative trim • across the top of the
planter and . on the columns and that the trim be painted
white. •

3. That Robellini Palms of similar size be substituted for
the Areca Palms.
4. That Indian Hawthorne, 3 gallon minimum size, be
substituted for the Ixora.
5. That Liriope be substituted for the Spider Grass.
6. That the property owner consider not calling the center
"Blockbuster Plaza".
Vote on the motion: 4-1 to approve with Chairperson Cook casting a
protest-vote against approval due to the change of the Plaza name.
Additional Board comments: NONE
Building Official comments: It is imperative the Council, if an
approval is given, make their approval subject to all of the other
nonconforming free-standing signs at Village Square Shopping Center
being removed prior to the issuance of a permit for this new sign.

This letter is to confirm the action of the Village of Tequesta
Community Appearance Board at the June 9, 1993 meeting approving your
application for the above referenced project subject to the following
conditions:
1. The color of the columns and planter are to match the color of
the existing building.
2. That there be a decorative trim across the top of the planter and
on the columns and that the trim be painted white.
3. That Robellini Palms of similar size be substituted for the Areca
Palms.
4. That Indian Hawthorne, 3 gallon minimum size, be substituted for
the Ixora.
5. That Liriope be substituted for the Spider Grass.
6. That the property owner consider not calling the center
"Blockbuster Plaza". -
As you are aware, this proposed project must go before the Village
Council for Site Plan Review, and has been placed on the agenda of
the Council meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 24, 1993, beginning
at 7: 00 P. M. in the Village Hall, 357 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta. You
and/or your representative must be in attendance at this meeting to
present your application and answer any, questions the Council may
have. If a representative is not present, the Council will withhold
action until a later date.
