MEMORANDUM:
TO: Village Council
"N '
FROM: Wade E. Griest, Chairman of Tequesta Fire-
Rescue Task Force
DATE: January 4, 1993
SUBJECT: Response to Resolution 28-91/92, Section )5,
Adopted September 3, 1992
At the last of twelve task force meetings on December 16,
1992, the following motion was made by Board Member Mervin
Crockett.
His motion moved for the adoption of the Bradford Report,
specifically, to set up a Fire Department in the Village of
Tequesta, contracting rescue services with North County
Ambulance, and contracting with Jupiter Inlet Colony to
provide that community with fire rescue services and to
provide that a staff of four firefighters be considered
rather than the three in the Tequesta Fire Rescue Report.
Board Member Jacobs seconded the motion. The vote on the
motion was :
Wade Griest - for
Robert Mortimer - for
Ron Mackail - for
Dr. Stanley Jacobs - for
Hal Hutchinson - against
Mervin Crockett - for
Alec Cameron - for
It should be noted that board Member, Thomas Rodth, though not J
in attendance at this eting, wrote a letter stating his
position, which was f6r an independent Tequesta Fire
Department, contracting with North County Ambulance for
rescue services, and contracting with Jupiter Inlet Colony to
provide that community with fire/rescue services.

It should also be noted that Board Member Sandy Linnan had to
leave the meeting before the final vote was made. However,
she did express her feeling that Tequesta should stay with
the Palm Beach County Fire/Rescue system with North County
Ambulance, leaving everything as it is today. However, since
North County Ambulance is now a part of Jupiter Hospital
where she is presently employed, her vote on North County
Ambulance portion would not be in order.
Concluding facts for drawing the aforementioned decisions
should be made.
The Majority_
1 . All options were very seriously studied and No. 8 was
chosen. Hopefully in the future, some regional
fire/rescue service can be arranged as stated in
Option No. 9 .
2 . Tequesta and Jupiter Inlet Colony would have a better
control of their finances and their destiny.
3 . Over the years, there should be a substantial savings
to the taxpayer.
4 . Wackenhut, an outside service, was voted out because
of a question of comparable salaries and their
interest directed more to personnel and
administration rather than equipment..
5 . Lake Park, slightly larger than Tequesta, has an
adequate Fire Department with a budget of $408,952
plus an insurance rating of four.
6 . After Commissioner Marcus and Chief Brice's
conference, it was obvious Palm Beach County
fire/rescue costs would continue to increase.
7 . Unfortunately, Martin County and Palm Beach Gardens
could not forward requested bids for service at this
time.
