NEW BUSINESS 1) Review treatment for Tequesta Drive Royal Palms: Gary Preston explained that the new growth on the Royal Palms, as is true all over the County, looks very bad. All of the recent rain has kept the new buds damp, thereby causing bud rot. Spraying does not help. Sixty-six trees are affected, and two Royal Palms may be lost due to the bud rot. Coconut Palms throughout Palm Beach County are suffering from lethal yellowing. The Village does not own any Coconut Palms. Lethal yellowing has not recurred in any Royal Palms. The Village's last experience with lethal yellowing resulted in a loss of 27 Royal Palms. Two Royal Palms have recently been replaced, with intentions of replacing two more. If the Village should suffer a loss of 25 or more Royal Palms, consideration should be given to replacing them with another kind of tree, since Royal Palms may be impossible to find with 20' -25' of grey wood. 2) Review status for Tree City USA application: Gary Preston explained the Village received notification that Tequesta has been accepted as a Tree City USA, with a recommendation from • the County Forester for Tequesta to receive the award. It is anticipated the award will be received some time in late March. When the award is received, Mr. Preston will draft a letter to all Homeowners Associations soliciting a 50/50 cost sharing of tree-planting projects. V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1) Tree Planting Projects with Homeowners Associations: Gary Preston explained that by this time next year the Library should be in, with a sidewalk installed, thereby probably requiring that some of the Royal Palms in that location will have to be moved. There will be a major operation taking place at Constitution Park within the next few months. At least two dozen new trees will be added,. another good project for Homeowners Associations. Hopefully by the end of 1993, a good portion of Constitution Park will be finished. The Tree Board determined their first choice of a tree to be planted on the Village Green would be: 1) a Magnolia Virginiana, or 2) a Pink Tabebuia, or 3) a Yellow Tabebuia, depending upon availability and size. VI. ANY OTHER MATTERS Vice Chairman Strahan stated he would notify the Tequesta Rotary, Club that their offer of providing a tree for planting has been accepted. VII.
