MEMORANDUM:
TO: Village Council
FROM: Thomas G. Bradford, Village Manager
DATE : April 2, '1993
SUBJECT: BRITT Grant Request; Agenda Item
Attached is a request for a grant in the amount of $1000 from the
Burt Reynolds Institute for Theatre Training (BRITT) . I think that
it would behoove the Village Council to grant this request in the
amount of $1000. By granting this request, you should assume that
other cultural institutions in Tequesta, such as the Lighthouse
Gallery, may request the same consideration, probably during this
fiscal year. In the long run, I think that a plan for funding such
institutions and/or cultural events along the lines of that
suggested by Councilmember Earl Collings, that is, the
establishment of an annual budgetary allocation to be used at the
discretion of the Village Council may be the best course of action.
In the short run, I recommend that the Village Council grant this
request in the amount of $1000 to BRITT. They are in need of
funding to meet their operational expenses and it is money well
spent for an institution which enhances the quality of life for
Tequesta citizens .

As a citizen of Tequesta I am proud of our village. I am particularly proud of our
commitment to enrich the quality of life here by placing such an emphasis on the arts.
This will continue to improve the value of residing in the village, and make it an
increasingly desirable place in which to do business.
Thus all of us here at BRITT will continue to work with you to that end. As BRITT's
reputation expands as the only theatre training institution of its kind, we honestly feel
it will also help Tequesta.
Although we were founded in 1979, we are really a new institution, and it has only
been in the last three years here in Tequesta that we have gained momentum in our
objectives. As a non-profit professional theatre-training and performing center, we
depend on start-up support of our mission to develop professional talent for the
theatre, film and television industries. We are confident that we have a model for
success: eighty percent of our 175 graduates are employed in contrast to only about
ten percent of all other union actors. To move forward we will need your help.
This letter, therefore, is a request that the Village of Tequesta make a modest up-front
investment in us in the form of a minimum grant of $1,000. Thank you for your time
and consideration.
