MEMORANDUM:
TO: Village Council
FROM: Thomas G. Bradford, Village Manager /
DATE: July 12, 1991
SUBJECT: College Exploratory Committee Request For Funds;
Agenda Item
Attached hereto is a copy of correspondence dated July 10 from
Councilmember Ed Howell, who is also the Chairman of the College
Exploratory Committee, created to research the feasibility of
creating a Jupiter-Tequesta satellite branch facility of the
Palm Beach Community College. The Committee is requesting funds
in the amount of $1, 250 from the Village of Tequesta to meet
specific start up costs of the inaugural school year. The
classes, if sufficient enrollment occurs, will be held at the
Jupiter Community' High School.
I have spoken to Dr. Ottis Smith, Provost of the College, and
Bill Kascavelis, Finance Director, regarding this matter. It
seems that the most appropriate way to provide these funds is
for the Village to pay the College directly. The College can
even invoice the Village should we so request.
It is recommended that the Village Council authorize the Village
Manager to provide funding directly to Palm Beach Community
College in the amount of $1,250 for the purposes stated herein,
in order to help initiate 'this important community-wide
undertaking. Should the Village Council approve the same, the
General Fund Budget will be amended accordingly prior to the end
of this fiscal year.

RE: College Exploratory Committee Expenses
Village of Tequesta Request for Funds
Dear Tan,
Please be advised that the Palm Beach Community College has requested that a fund
be set up in advance to pay for the cost of the rental of classroom for the
fall registration commencing August 26, 1991.
•
We estimate that we will need approximately $2000-$2500 and would appreciate it
if you could provide us with funds of $1250.00 to be held in escrow by the
college to pay for the specific cost of this project. In addition we will
submit a request for funds for the new year commencing Oct. 1, 1991 in the very
near future. This project is very important to the community and we wish to
thank you for your support and assistance in this regard.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ed Howell
