Bradford, Village Manager ) 7 DATE: May 3, 1991 SUBJECT: Authorization for the Mayor to Execute a Letter Approving the Distribution of Federal Anti-Drug Abuse Funds for the Palm Beach County Substance Abuse Program; Agenda Item The Federal Government has allocated $12, 644,338 in Anti-Drug Abuse Act Grant Funds for FY 1991 to the State of Florida which may be used by local units of government. The State of Florida has allocated $726, 221 of these funds for use by all units of government within Palm Beach County. Obviously, these funds are not sufficient to meet the total drug control needs of each unit of government within the County. The Florida Administrative Code requires that as a , condition of participation in this program, the units of government in each county reach a consensus concerning the expenditure of these funds, including the projects to be implemented and the agency responsible for such implementation. In Palm Beach County, the Sheriff's Office has been the consensus agency responsible for such implementation. These funds are used by the Sheriff' s Office to fund the Multi-Agency Narcotics Unit (MAN) and the Substance Abuse Awareness Program ( SAAP) . The Sheriff' s Office is asking for our support and assistance in securing the grant funds for the continuation of their Comprehensive Substance Abuse Program. As part of the application process, letters of support from at least fifty-one percent ( 51%) of the local units of government representing at least fifty-one percent ( 51%) of the population must accompany the submission of application. It is recommended that the Village Council authorize the Mayor to execute such a letter, example attached, on behalf of the Village of Tequesta.
