SUBJECT: Resolution No. 6-90/91; Coast Guard Land; Agenda
Item
Attached is the above referenced Resolution which has been
prepared pursuant to your request at the January 24 Village
Council Meeting. The Resolution identifies the Coast Guard
lands in Tequesta and expresses the intention of the Village in
securing title to these properties for public park and
recreational purposes.
I recommend adoption of Resolution 6-90/91.

RESOLUTION NO. 6-90/91
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA,
PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, DIRECTED TO THE
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION, UNITED STATES COAST GUARD,
REQUESTING CONSIDERATION OF THE VILLAGE OF
TEQUESTA AS A PROPER_ RECIPIENT OF THE
TITLE TO PARCELS A & B OF THE JUPITER
INLET LIGHTHOUSE STATION PROPERTY
CONSISTING OF APPROXIMATELY 49.491. ACRES;
EXPRESSING THE INTENTION OF THE VILLAGE IN
SECURING SAID SITE TO CONTINUE TO USE THE
PREMISES FOR PUBLIC . PARK AND RECREATIONAL
PURPOSES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the United States of America, Department of
Transportation, United States Coast Guard; operates the
Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Station on several parcels or
tracts of land located generally at the northwest quadrant
of the Loxahatchee River and the Intracoastal Waterway, just
west of the Jupiter Inlet in the Village of Tequesta and the
Town of Jupiter, Palm Beach County, . Florida; and
WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard has recently
indicated that, in the near future, certain portions of its
Jupiter Lighthouse Station site may be declared surplus and
made available to be transferred to civilian interests or be
otherwise disposed of, including Parcels A & B which lie
within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Village of
Tequesta; and
WHEREAS, , the Village of Tequesta for many years has
designated the land use for these properties to be
recreational and open space (R/OP) ; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta
deems it necessary and desirable, and in the best interest
of the citizens and residents of the Village of Tequesta, to
express its intentions to the United States of America,
Department of Transportation, United States Coast Guard,
that the Village wishes to acquire title to Parcels A & B of
the Jupiter . Lighthouse Station site for the use of said
premises for public park and recreational purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, ' BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL
OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA,
that:
Section 1. The Village of Tequesta hereby requests the
United States of . America, Department of Transportation,
United States Coast Guard, to consider the Village of
Tequesta as a proper recipient of the title to Parcels A & B
of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Station, `consisting of a
total of approximately 49.49± acres, as indicated on the
1990 Palm Beach County Property Appraisers Tax Map. A copy
of the legal description of Parcels A & B is attached
hereto, marked Exhibit "A", and made a part hereof.
Section 2. The Village Council of the Village of
Tequesta hereby expresses the intention of the Village in
securing title to these properties that it will continue to
use the premises for public park and recreational purposes
as allowed within the context of the Village recreation and
open space (R/OP) zoning district classification. The
Village of Tequesta regards these lands as a potentially
important recreational facility to be utilized for the
benefit of the public.

Section 3. The Village Manager is hereby authorized to
meet and confer with the various officers and officials of
the United States of America, Department of Transportation,
United States Coast Guard, as may be required, and to do all
things necessary to carry out the purposes and intent of
this Resolution.
Section 4. The Village Clerk is directed to forward a
copy of this Resolution to the United States of America,
Department of Transportation, United States Coast Guard and
to the Honorable Tom Lewis, United States Representative for
the State of Florida.
Section 5. This Resolution shall take effect
immediately upon adoption.

who moved its adoption. The Resolution was..
seconded by Councilmember and upon being
put to a vote, the vote was as follows:

The Mayor thereupon declared the Resolution duly passed
