Subject: Letter of Support for the Jupiter Narrows Conservation Alliance and the initiative to restore mangroves and
seagrasses in the Jupiter Narrows
To Whom It May Concern:
We are pleased to provide this letter of support for the initiative led by the Jupiter Narrows Conservation Alliance
to protect and preserve the environmental integrity of the Jupiter Narrows and the surrounding marine
environment. This initiative will ultimately help restore the mangrove islands and surrounding seagrasses in the
Jupiter Narrows.
As representatives for the Village of Tequesta,we care deeply about the communities and marine habitats that make
our area unique, especially within our Intracoastal waterways. Over the years, the mangrove islands within the
Narrows have provided vital habitat for our favorite marine species, protected our shoreline from weather and wear,
and helped keep the water clean and healthy. However, these crucial mangrove islands have recently suffered
substantial erosion due to human activity and increased wave energy. We risk losing them forever if we don't act
soon. By building upon current research and data from Taylor Engineering to inform effective interventions,we can
enact solutions that will impact the longevity of our shared marine environment.
"Growing up in the area, I have witnessed firsthand the decline of the Jupiter Narrows mangrove
islands and seagrasses. It is imperative that the habitat in the Narrows area is restored, so the
ecological and recreational benefits of this extraordinary area thrive for future generations." N
Mayor Molly Young
"It is virtually universal that long-term residents are alarmed and concerned about the evident
deterioration of the mangrove islands in the Jupiter Narrows that has occurred slowly, but surely
over time. I'm not sure one can also say the same about seagrasses as they are invisible to most
people."N Council Member Thomas Bradford
This initiative, led by the Jupiter Narrows Conservation Alliance, will be transformative in helping to protect and
maintain the vital mangroves and seagrasses that make Tequesta exceptional.
Sincerely,
Molly Young
