Arbor Day Celebration and Tree City USA Update
The Village Council declared April 26th as Arbor Day at its April 11th meeting. On April 26th, the
Village held an official Arbor Day Celebration. At the event, the final tree was planted from Phase 1 of
the Tequesta Drive tree planting project. This project resulted in the planting of approximately 35 Live
Oaks and 30 Sable Palms along Tequesta Drive.
The Arbor Day event was attended by students from Good Shepherd and Providence School,
residents, and several current and past elected officials. Mayor Molly Young and students read the
Proclamation that declared it Arbor Day in the Village. EAC Chair Jessica Namath gave a speech
about the importance of trees and the environment.
Hosting an annual Arbor Day Celebration is the last step needed for the Village to become a "Tree
City USA". The Village has previously been in the Tree City USA program but had its membership
lapse at some point in the past. Village staff will begin the process of applying for the program and
keep the EAC involved in the process as it progresses.
