WEINAND, FIRE CHI SUBJECT: IMPACT FEE EXPENDITURE, NDA ITEM DATE: AUGUST 4, 2000 I am requesting Council permission to purchase a new file server and related hardware for the Fire Department out of the Fire Department's Impact Fee Account. At the July 25, 2000 Village of Tequesta's Computer Committee meeting, a recommendation was made to replace the existing computer file server. We have had several mainframe crashes this year that have taken the Fire, Police and of Community Development departments months of work to rebuild the data loss. The committee feels that redundancy in the computer system needs to be established, therefore causing the Police and Fire Departments to have separate file servers. These file servers are to be interconnected and back each other up, therefore if one system crashes the other system will be able to pick up the load. The existing file server was purchased for the Fire Department about five years ago and has been expanded several times to include the networking of the Police Department and Community Development. The increased workloads of the Fire and Police Departments have outgrown this single file server application. The impact of commuter aided dispatching, electronic reporting of medical data and the upcoming medical billing makes redundancy a must to protect these vital records. The temporary relocation during construction will cause all three departments to be on separate file severs. The existing server could be utilized by the Department of Community Development, if they see fit.
