Allison, Chief of Police 4c- SUBJECT: Agenda Item - Byrne Grant Funds DATE: May 3, 2000 Please obtain Council permission for the Mayor to sign the attached sample letter approving the allocation of Byrne funds for specific projects in Palm Beach County. Since the Byrne funds have been available, the municipalities in Palm Beach County have agreed not to compete with each other for portions of this grant money. The Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission serving as the Substance Abuse Advisory Board has been coordinating the receipt and expenditure of the entire allocation of Byrne funds for Palm Beach County. This approach prevents the fragmentation of law enforcement's efforts to control substance abuse in Palm Beach County.
