V6111age of T 345 Tequesta Drive 561-768-0700 Tequesta, FL 33469 www.tequesta.org TO: Environmental Advisory Committee FROM: Brad Freese, Chair EAC DATE: 12/11/2024 SUBJECT: Tequesta Community Grant Program for Living Shorelines Assuming a budgetary allocation for living shorelines in Tequesta, how would EAC like to advise the village council? Incentivizing Tequesta homeowners with shorelines would be the end goal. Please come prepared to share your thoughts. Some of my ideas to consider... 1. Phase I: A"low hanging fruit"least risky initial project to demonstrate to residents what is a living shoreline. Candidate locations include Riverside drainage easement, north and south parks in Tequesta Country Club. 2. Phase II: Community Engagement/Information. Messaging through social media, VOT weekly news, Smoke Signals, and direct mailer to candidate properties to educate residents on the benefits of a living shoreline and address most common perceived disadvantages. Presentations during proposed EAC workshop to potentially include Sue Panetta, Peter Dewitt, Nick Bourdon, Keith Rossin, etc. More on this in new business. 3. Phase III: Most likely a year *2 initiative. A VOT grant program open to citizens to incentivize installation of a living shoreline. Committee will need to make recommendations to council on how such a community grant program would look. A. 50/50 cost share grant with homeowner. B. Engagement with permitting agencies to create a standardized living shoreline example to potentially"fast track"the permitting process.
