Consider Approval of Shrieve Chemical Company, LLC, 2nd Addendum to a February 9, 2023,
Agreement for Sulfuric Acid 93% Solution for Water Treatment based on PBC#22071 R Piggyback
Agreement
SUMMARY-
010
The Village of Tequesta Utilities Department (UD) recommends approval of the 2nd amendment
renewal of our piggyback agreement leveraging Palm Beach County PBC#22071 R contract for
sulfuric acid (H2SO4) from Shrieve Chemical Company, LLC (Shrieve). We are currently paying
$2.13/gallon to pretreat raw water before the reverse osmosis (RO) plant membrane process and
Shrieve is offering to continue that price.
The full piggyback agreement can be viewed by contacting the Utilities Department.
Sulfuric acid is used in the water treatment process to lower the pH of the raw water to the reversse
osmosis (RO) membranes. The source water for the RO plant comes from the upper Floridan aquifer,
which contains compounds such as calcium carbonate and hydrogen sulfide along with other
constituents in the untreated groundwater. These are removed from the water through the RO
membranes. Sulfuric acid also aids in the removal of hydrogen sulfide in the post-treatment degasifier
system.
Attached is the agreement with the Village from February 9, 2023, and the 1st and 2nd amendments
to the agreement.
The Village will need approximately 21,000 gallons at $2.13/gallons through the remainder of the
fiscal year and will open a $45,000 purchase order to cover that amount. The money will come from
the Water Fund's production treatment chemicals in 401-242-552.342.
