E-BIKE & BIKE STATE LAWS 4- KNOW THE DIFFERENCE: • The bike pictured to your left is NOT an e- bike • This is an e-motorcycle (or e-moto). Please check your model for classification • Not permitted on sidewalks or roadways • Models can reach over 70 MPH STATE STATUTE - 0. 316.20655 • Riders under 16 must wear a fastened & secured helmet. • E-bikes must have the manufacturer label affixed which contains: classification, top speed, & motor wattage. • A person cannot modify/tamper with an a-bike to change speed capability or engagement of a-bike, unless the affixed label is replaced with updated modifications. • An electric bicycle must operate in a manner so that the electric motor is disengaged or ceases to function when the rider stops pedaling or when the brakes are applied. • E-bikes ARE allowed on sidewalks, but if you're riding there, slow down and be mindful of pedestrians. Bike riders are required to yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and give a audible signal when passing. • Lights are required for night riding -All bicycles, including e-bikes, to have proper lighting and reflectors when riding at night. • If you are riding in the roadway, you must follow the rules of the road just like any other vehicle. • If you are riding less then posted speed you are required to ride in the bike lane or close to the curb. Please call us at (567) 768-0505IP Page 4 of A BICYCLE SAFETY TIPS EQUIPMENT CHECK • Always wear a properly fitted and secured helmet. • Inflate & check tires and ensure brakes are functioning properly. • Be seen!! Wear bright or reflective clothing while riding, install reflectors on your bicycle, refrain from biking at nights when possible, and always ensure your bicycle light is working. • A bike lights that is visible at a distance 500 feet and reflectors are required for riding at night. *Weed extra light? We offer free bicycles lights & wrist bands at the PD! BICYCLE OPERATION • Keep both hands on handle bars and have control of your bike. • Look and listen! Ensure you are able to hear and see your surroundings. This means removing earphones and any visual obstructions. • Watch for hazards that may cause you to lose control: potholes, glass, gravel, debris, and animals. • Do not make sudden movements, such as swerving, turning without signaling and looking, or riding into traffic. Tequesta Police Department's Post X Tequesta Police Department March 14 at 10:29AM We are deeply saddened by the tragic news from our neighbors in Jupiter, where two juveniles were struck while riding their e-bikes, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of one young life. Our hearts go out to their families, friends, and the entire community during this difficult time. This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance on our roadways. We urge all cyclists and e-bike riders to take extra precautions and encourage drivers to remain attentive at all times. As a community, we are committed to promoting safety and awareness to help prevent such devastating accidents in the future. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this unimaginable loss. Tequesta Police Department Published by Maria Daniele 0 October 7, 2024-Q3 On Friday,October4th, the Tequesta Police Department hosted our annual National Night Out, strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the community.We provided free bike helmets, child fingerprinting services, and displayed police vehicles alongside neighboring agencies. K-9 Officer Scout made his debut and our officers even shot hoops with the kids! A special thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this day such a success! A big shout- out to our Parks Department, led by Director Greg Corbin, who worked tirelessly to set up the Trucks &Tunes event.Their dedication and partnership allowed us to share this fantastic day with the community. We also want to extend our gratitude to @evoitalian and @ gallerygrilletequesta for their generosity in donating two gift certificates to our lucky winner.
