STAFF MEMO x
Meeting: Regular Council - Jun 12 2025
Staff Contact: Marjorie Craig, Utilities Director Department: Utilities
Consider Approval of Tampa Truck Center Purchase of a 2024 AWD Electrician's Vehicle, a
Mercedes Sprinter MXCC4A through the Florida Sheriff's Association Contract for a Cost of
$84,746.98
The Utilities Department (UD) recommends approving the purchase of a 2024 AWD Mercedes
Sprinter MXCC4A through the Florida Sheriff's Association contract for $84,746.98. This vehicle was
budgeted and approved for fiscal year 2025 (FY25) for $85,000. This van will replace the existing unit
UD58, a 2003 Chevrolet 3500, which is over 22 years old and has 73,553 miles, and will be outfitted
for the electrician. The Mercedes Sprinter Platform brand was selected over a Ford Transport
Chassis because it is less expensive, and this vehicle is readily available, while the Ford would be "a
major challenge to overcome," per the vendor.
The Village electrician uses a work vehicle for transportation and day-to-day maintenance activities
for all types of electrical issues throughout the Village for the Utilities Department and the Public
Works Department. Vehicle UD58 is 22 years old and is scheduled to be replaced with a newer
model with up-to-date safety features, a cargo van or work chassis appropriate for the electrician's
work, and more functional storage. The existing vehicle is not designed and specifically outfitted for
an electrician's use.. The Village Council approved $85,000 to purchase the vehicle in the FY25
budget.
To ensure the lowest possible price, the Village piggyback's the current Florida Sheriffs Association
contract that was awarded to various vendors (including Tampa Truck Center). The vendor selection
by the Sheriffs Association & Florida Association of Counties was completed through a competitive
selection process.
The Utilities Department recommends moving forward with this purchase. The truck being replaced,
UD58, is expected to be surplused.
