Workshop STAFF MEMO x Meeting: Workshop - Aug 04 2025 Staff Contact: Jeremy Allen, Village Manager Department: Manager Jupiter Narrows Update and Funding Request SUMMARY: -I = The Jupiter Narrows Conservation Alliance (JNCA). JNCA was founded in January 2024 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a clear mission: to preserve and protect the environmental integrity of the Jupiter Narrows, the eastern stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway from Cato's Bridge north into Coral Cove Park. JNCA has engaged Taylor Engineering, a firm with extensive experience in marine restoration to help restore the Jupiter Narrows. After careful analysis, the recommended strategy is to install limestone breakwaters between the boating channel and the remaining mangrove islands. These structures are designed to reduce wave energy, stabilize sediment, protect mangrove root systems, and foster the return of seagrass beds. Taylor Engineering has submitted the necessary permit applications and is optimistic based on the success of similar, permitted projects elsewhere in Florida. Since its founding JNCA has been fundraising for the restoration of the Jupiter Narrows. At the August 4th Workshop, JNCA's President Sue Panella will give the Village Council an update on the project and its recent fundraising efforts. JNCA has recently obtained a $5,000 donation from the Town of Jupiter (through the Andrew "Red" Harris Foundation) and is also seeking donations from the Village of Tequesta and Jupiter Inlet Colony.
