Workshop STAFF MEMO x Meeting: Workshop - Sep 02 2025 Staff Contact: Doug Chambers, Director of Public Department: Public Works Works EMT Discussion on the FPL SolarTogether Program FPL SolarTogether Program Summary The FPL SolarTogether program allows the Village to subscribe to solar energy from FPL's solar farms. Tequesta pays a fixed monthly fee, and in return receives bill credits that grow every year. No upfront costs, no equipment to maintain, and no long-term commitment. Understanding the 45% "Savings • The program covers roughly 45% of the Village's energy usage. • This means that almost half of the electricity Tequesta consumes is sourced from solar energy. • Important: This is not the same as saving 45% on the electricity bill. • The actual financial savings depend on the bill credits, which start smaller than the subscription fee and grow over time. The Village is using solar for almost half of its electricity, but the dollar savings are much smaller than 45%. The credits slowly catch up to the fee, and net savings start in Year 5. Annual Cost and Credits (Estimated) Year Subscription Fee Bill Credits Net Cost/ Savings 1 $106,673 $101,955 -$4,718 2 $106,673 $104,000 -$2,673 3 $106,673 $106,000 -$673 4 $106,673 $107,200 -$527 5 $106,673 $107,582 +$909 6 $106,673 $108,500 +$1,827 7 $106,673 $109,500 +$2,827 8 $106,673 $110,500 +$3,827 9 $106,673 $111,500 +$4,827 10 $106,673 $112,500 +$5,827 Cumulative 10-year net savings: -$11,450 When Do We Start Saving? • Break-even: Year 5 - credits exceed the subscription fee. • After Year 5, savings grow each year as credits increase. Rate Details • Subscription fee: $6.76 per kW per month (fixed). Page 213 of 430 Agenda Item #2. • Credit rate: Starts at 3.60 per kWh and grows annually. Simple Terms • Early years (1-4) cost slightly more than the credits received. • After Year 5, the Village begins to save money, and savings increase each year. • Over 10 years, the Village saves about $11,450 while sourcing 45% of electricity from solar energy.
