Florida Climate Week October 6th_12th
WHEREAS,the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Synthesis Report(2023)
listed a current temperature rise of 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels,which has contributed to an increase in
extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and disruption to ecosystems and human livelihoods; and
WHEREAS, Florida—with over 825 miles of coastline and many areas just a few feet above sea level—is highly
vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including sea-level rise, flooding, saltwater intrusion, and stronger,
more frequent storms; and
WHEREAS, climate-related changes such as ocean warming, acidification, and pollution pose severe threats to
Florida's coral reefs, marine biodiversity, and fisheries,which are vital to the state's environmental health and
economic prosperity; and
WHEREAS,VoLo Foundation, in partnership with local municipalities, nonprofit organizations, elected officials,
academic institutions, media, and community leaders, is committed to educating Floridians about climate
challenges and empowering them with data-driven solutions to take action for a more resilient future; and
WHEREAS, Florida Climate Week, held annually in October, offers a platform for communities across the state to
engage with climate science, policy, innovation, and resilience strategies through accessible programming
available at FloridaClimateWeek.org;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA,October 6th-121h 202S,as"Florida Climate
Week" in the Village of Tequesta.
