Consider The Paterno Family request for a Memorial Plaque at Remembrance Park Honoring
Thomas Paterno
The Paterno family wishes to donate a memorial plaque to be placed in Remembrance Park in honor
of Thomas (Tom) Paterno, who served the Village of Tequesta on the Village Council from 2005 to
2019, including time as Vice Mayor and Mayor.
To honor his legacy, the family is proposing a bronze plaque mounted on a pedestal in a location
they've identified within the park. The plaque would include his name, years of service, and a
message reflecting his values.
Donation Amount is $2,875 (includes installation)

• Size: 16-inch diameter, '/4-inch thick

Agenda Item #2.
Dear Council Members,
On behalf of the Paterno family, we would be deeply honored to donate to the Village of
Tequesta for a plaque at Remembrance Park in memory of Thomas Paterno.
Tom dedicated countless hours to serving the Village he loved so dearly. From 2005 to
2019, he proudly served on the Village Council, including terms as both Vice Mayor and
Mayor. Every moment he spent in service to Tequesta brought him joy, and his devotion
to preserving the Village's unique character never wavered. One of his most cherished
beliefs was to "always keep Tequesta, Tequesta" — a phrase he lived by and shared
often, with genuine pride and affection for his community.
In the September 2006 edition of Smoke Signals, Tom wrote:
"I guess it's a little like the movie Pay It Forward, except, rather than do just three big
things to help people along, we should always be on the lookout for little things we can
do every day. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. Help a senior citizen load groceries
into the car. Watch your neighbor's kids while they run a quick errand. Do something to
lighten the load for somebody else. It will make your day, and come back to you tenfold.
It's what has made our community strong and what will make us even better in the
future."
These words perfectly capture the spirit with which Tom lived his life — with kindness,
generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his neighbors and his community. To our
family, they also reflect the legacy of love and service he leaves behind.
It would mean so much to us to honor Tom's memory with a plaque that not only
commemorates his years of service but also serves as a reminder of the values he held
most dear. We would be grateful to work with you on the appropriate next steps and any
guidelines needed for this process. For your reference, we've attached a photo of the
location we envision for the plaque.
With warm regards and heartfelt thanks,
The Paterno Family
