TEQUESTA, Fla. -- Demolition of the Tequesta Drive Bridge began Wednesday.
Village leaders met Tuesday with the contractor, engineers and Florida Department of
Transportation to push the project along.
The westbound lanes of the bridge were shut down in September for safety reasons.
Since then, village leaders have worked to expedite repairs they anticipated making at some point.
The bridge wasn't scheduled to be replaced until late 2oio.
By November, the FDOT had approved the construction company village leaders picked and
issued a notice to proceed.
At Tuesday's meeting, the mayor relayed residents' concerns about the lack of construction
progress.
Crews began removing the utility lines from the surface of the bridge Tuesday to get ready for the
demolition project.
It should take about seven months to complete.
